At Trinity Catholic Primary School, Mathematics is exciting and challenging! Our goal is to provide strategic, powerful and personalised learning opportunities for all.

At Trinity we are directed by the Victorian Curriculum which outlines the Mathematics curriculum for students at each year level from Prep to Year 6. The Victorian Curriculum: Mathematics provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It develops the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal life and work. The Mathematics curriculum encourages teachers to help students become self-motivated, confident learners through inquiry and active participation in challenging and engaging experiences.

At Trinity we believe very strongly in a ’personalised learning approach’ and therefore we have a very strong focus on assessment. Our students are involved in ongoing Mathematics Assessment such as Pat Maths and Essential Assessment. All class teachers Pre-Test students at the beginning of each Mathematical unit to see what they already know and then Post-Test at the end of the unit to determine the learning. In Years 3 and 5 all students participate in the National NAPLAN Numeracy Test each May. All this information gives the teachers at Trinity a very clear understanding of students' learning needs and helps us to engage them in learning at their level. All of the data we receive from NAPLAN informs our planning and teaching so we can provide the best learning experiences catering specifically for your child’s needs.

All classroom teachers at Trinity are involved in ongoing Professional Learning. In 2018 all teachers at Trinity continue to be engaged in Professional Learning, with a particular focus on Mathematics, working very closely with Numeracy Leaders to deepen our understanding of the AusVELs curriculum and to plan units of work that especially look at providing purposeful and personalised learning opportunities for our students.

The students at Trinity also have the opportunity to be involved and engaged in a variety of Mathematical experiences throughout the school.

At Trinity we are very proud of our achievements in Mathematics.
